About All On 4 Dental Implants

All On 4 Dental Implants offer a revolutionary solution for those seeking a complete smile transformation. This advanced dental procedure involves securing a full set of teeth on just four strategically placed implants, providing stability and functionality. Unlike traditional implant methods, All On 4 maximises existing bone structure, often eliminating the need for bone grafting. This minimally invasive approach enables patients to enjoy the benefits of a fixed, natural-looking smile in a significantly reduced treatment time. It’s a transformative option for individuals looking to regain confidence, comfort, and the joy of a fully restored set of teeth.

Can I get All On 4 Dental Implants if I have gum disease - Brooklands Dental ClinicWhat is Gum Disease?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an inflammatory condition affecting the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. It typically starts with the accumulation of plaque — a sticky film of bacteria — on the teeth. When not removed through regular oral hygiene practices like brushing and flossing, plaque can lead to the development of gum disease. Early stages involve gingivitis, characterised by red and swollen gums that may bleed easily. If left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis, causing gum recession, pockets between teeth and gums, and potential tooth loss. Regular dental care is essential to prevent and manage gum disease.

Importance of Addressing Gum Disease Before Considering Implants

To ensure the success and longevity of the implant treatment, we suggest to address your gum disease before considering All On 4 Dental Implants. It’s because healthy gums provide a stable foundation for implants, reducing the risk of complications and promoting optimal healing. Gum disease can compromise the integrity of the supporting tissues and bone, making it essential to treat and stabilise the gums before proceeding with implant surgery. By prioritising gum health, patients enhance the chances of a seamless integration of implants, minimising the potential for infections or implant failure.

Frequently Ask Questions

What are the signs and symptoms of gum disease?

Gum disease manifests through various signs and symptoms that individuals should be aware of. Common indicators include red, swollen, or bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums, and the formation of pockets between teeth and gums. If you experience these symptoms, seeking prompt dental attention is crucial. Regular dental check-ups enable early detection and intervention, preventing the progression of gum disease and potential implications for All On 4 candidacy. Identifying and addressing these signs early on is key to maintaining optimal gum health and ensuring a smooth All On 4 implantation process.

Can gum disease be treated before All On 4 implantation?

Yes, gum disease can and should be treated before considering All On 4 implantation. Our approach involves a meticulous assessment of your gum health, allowing us to devise a customised treatment plan based on the severity of the disease. Treatments may include scaling and root planing, antibiotics, and other interventions to eliminate infection and inflammation. Treating gum disease before All On 4 is imperative for creating an optimal environment for successful implantation. By addressing gum issues beforehand, we enhance the stability of the implants, minimise the risk of complications, and contribute to the overall success of the All On 4 procedure.

What treatment options are available for addressing gum disease?

Treatment options for addressing gum disease vary based on the severity of the condition. Mild cases, such as gingivitis, may be managed with improved oral hygiene practices, professional cleanings, and lifestyle modifications. Moderate to severe cases, like periodontitis, may require more intensive interventions. These can include scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar, antibiotic therapy to combat infection, and, in some instances, surgical procedures to address advanced issues. Our specialists tailor treatment plans to the individual, ensuring that the chosen interventions effectively address gum disease and create a healthy foundation for subsequent All On 4 implantation.

Will treating gum disease impact the timeline for All On 4 procedures?

Treating gum disease before All On 4 procedures may impact the timeline, but it is a crucial step for overall success. The duration of treatment varies depending on the severity of gum disease and the chosen interventions. Mild cases may require a shorter timeframe for resolution, while more advanced conditions might necessitate a more extended treatment period. Our goal is to prioritise effective treatment to stabilise gum health before proceeding with All On 4. While it may extend the overall timeline, this approach ensures the best possible conditions for successful implantation and long-term results.

Is there a specific level of gum health required for All On 4 Dental Implants?

Yes, a specific level of gum health is required for successful All On 4 Dental Implants. Our specialists assess your gum health to ensure that it meets the necessary standards for implantation. Healthy gums provide a stable foundation for the implants, promoting proper integration and minimising the risk of complications. The assessment focuses on factors such as gum thickness, attachment, and the absence of active disease to establish the optimal conditions for a successful All On 4 procedure.

How does gum disease influence the success rates of All On 4?

Gum disease significantly influences the success rates of All On 4 Dental Implants. Healthy gums are crucial for the stability and longevity of the implants. Untreated gum disease can compromise the integration of implants, leading to potential issues such as infection, implant failure, or peri-implantitis. Addressing gum disease before All On 4 significantly enhances success rates, creating an environment conducive to proper implant integration and minimising the risk of post-surgical complications.

Are there any potential complications if I have gum disease and proceed with All On 4?

Proceeding with All On 4 while having untreated gum disease can pose potential complications. Untreated gum disease increases the risk of infection around the implants, compromising their stability and integration. Complications may include implant failure, peri-implantitis, and compromised long-term outcomes. Our specialists prioritise addressing gum health to mitigate these risks, ensuring a smoother and more successful All On 4 experience for each patient.

Can gingivitis affect All On 4 treatment plans?

Yes, gingivitis can affect All On 4 treatment plans. While gingivitis is the mildest form of gum disease, untreated, it can progress to more severe conditions. Our specialists assess and treat gingivitis as part of the comprehensive evaluation before All On 4 planning. Addressing gingivitis at this stage helps create a healthier foundation for successful implantation, minimising potential complications and optimising overall treatment outcomes.

Does periodontitis automatically disqualify me from All On 4 implants?

Periodontitis does not automatically disqualify you from All On 4 implants. However, its presence requires thorough assessment and treatment. Our specialists tailor treatment plans to address periodontitis, aiming to stabilise gum health before proceeding with implantation. The severity and extent of periodontitis influence the overall treatment approach, with the goal of creating optimal conditions for successful All On 4 outcomes.

Are there additional precautions for individuals with a history of gum disease?

Individuals with a history of gum disease may require additional precautions before undergoing All On 4 Dental Implants. Our specialists take into account your medical history, including any past gum issues, when developing a treatment plan. This may involve more vigilant monitoring, specific preventive measures, or tailored interventions to address any residual concerns from previous gum disease. By considering your history, we ensure a thorough and individualised approach, optimising the success of All On 4 for patients with a history of gum disease.

Can I still get All On 4 if I’ve had previous gum disease treatment?

Yes, you can still get All On 4 if you’ve had previous gum disease treatment. Our specialists consider your treatment history and assess the current state of your gum health. If previous treatments have effectively addressed gum issues and stabilised your oral health, it may be possible to proceed with All On 4. Thorough evaluation and ongoing monitoring ensure that your previous gum disease treatment contributes to the overall success of the implant procedure.

Will treating gum disease improve the longevity of All On 4 implants?

Yes, treating gum disease before All On 4 implantation improves the longevity of the implants. Addressing gum issues creates a stable foundation for the implants, minimising the risk of complications and optimising integration. Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I don’t usually write reviews, I’m doing it for 2 reasons. Firstly I can not find any words to thank, The hygienist ❤️Julieanne ❤️I have seen her twice this week. 40 minutes for first visit and today was an 1hr. Due to circumstances, and being soooo frightened, and suffering with severe anxiety, I let my teeth get it to a state, which has caused bone loss and gum disease. I have seen many hygienists in my time. Unfortunately due to my fear and anxiety, I was always given a quick 20 minute clean, due to the sensitivity I had, and lack of patience from the hygienist, even with the injecting of the gums, I was into much pain. The only hygienist in 20 years plus, Julianne has been the only one that could do what I needed for years, and gave me a deep clean. She didn’t rush, spent time to numb my gums, she is an extremely gentle person, but got the job done. She would not allow me to have any discomfort. After my first visit on Tuesday, I was excited that there was a cancellation today, can’t believe I said that 😂, even though I was anxious, I trusted her. I have actually done it. The other reason for this review, is for all the other people out there like me. If you have sensitive teeth, the last thing we think we can do is have our teeth cleaned, especially under the gums. Don’t worry, you really can, it all depends how qualified the hygienist is. It’s easy for me to say this now, and yes I will be anxious on my next appointment, but she really didn’t hurt me at all. Book with Julieanne, even though you might of experienced a painful experience before, hate the dentist, suffer with anxiety, and never been able to get a deep clean due to the pain from the water, noice, vibration. I had mine done pain free. I know I’ve got to try to save my teeth, and will be quite happy to go to Julianne So from someone who really knows, don’t need to be scared and see an exceptional lady. Thank you so much Julieanne.Love Julie x

I have a real phobia of dentists but needed a tooth extracted so very reluctantly made an appointment here. All I can say is from the time I stepped inside the reception area until the time all my treatment had finished - the service was excellent. The staff are all so caring and understanding and made me feel at ease. All very friendly too. I have recommended a friend who has already made an appointment. I will be back in 6 months for a check up - which I have never done before. I always wait for a problem before I go to the dentist.
