In short, All On 4 implants differ by strategically placing four implants, reducing bone grafting needs, and enabling same-day temporary teeth. Traditional implants involve more implants, often requiring bone grafts, and an extended treatment timeline. All On 4 provides efficient, comprehensive restoration with fewer implants for quicker results.

Dental implants in Milton Keynes Broughton - Brooklands Dental ClinicTraditional Implant Procedure

The traditional implant procedure involves several stages. Firstly, the oral surgeon surgically places the implant into the jawbone. Afterward, a healing period allows for osseointegration, where the bone fuses with the implant. Once integrated, an abutment is added, and a customised crown is placed atop, completing the restoration, resulting in a functional and aesthetically pleasing artificial tooth.

Key Characteristics of Traditional Implants:

Traditional dental implants consist of three main components: the implant itself, the abutment, and the crown.

  1. Implant: Typically made of titanium, the implant is surgically placed into the jawbone.
  2. Abutment: Connected to the implant, the abutment serves as a connector for attaching the crown.
  3. Crown: The final step involves placing a custom-designed crown on the abutment, resembling a natural tooth.

Placement Process:

  1. Consultation and Planning: The process begins with a thorough examination and treatment planning, assessing the patient’s oral health and determining implant suitability.
  2. Surgical Placement: The oral surgeon surgically places the implant into the jawbone, providing a stable foundation.
  3. Osseointegration: Over several months, osseointegration occurs as the bone fuses with the implant, ensuring stability and durability.
  4. Abutment Attachment: Once integrated, an abutment is attached to the implant, protruding from the gumline.
  5. Crown Placement: The final stage involves attaching a custom-made crown to the abutment, completing the restoration.

The duration of traditional dental implant treatment varies but typically spans several months. After the initial implant placement surgery, a healing period of 3 to 6 months is often necessary for osseointegration, where the implant fuses with the jawbone. Subsequent steps, including abutment attachment and crown placement, contribute to the overall duration. Individual cases may differ based on factors such as healing speed and treatment complexity.

How does All On 4 differ from traditional dental implants - Brooklands Dental ClinicFrequently Ask Questions

What is the significance of angled placement in All On 4 implants?

The angled placement of implants in All On 4 is crucial for optimal stability and support. This technique allows for greater contact between the implant and available bone, enhancing the overall strength of the implant-supported restoration. The strategic angulation also minimises the need for extensive bone grafting, making All On 4 suitable for patients with varying degrees of bone loss.

Is bone grafting required for All On 4 as it is for traditional implants?

All On 4 is designed to reduce the need for extensive bone grafting, a common requirement in traditional implant procedures. The strategic placement of four implants, including angled placement, often utilises existing bone efficiently, making All On 4 a more accessible option for individuals with bone loss.

Can I get same-day temporary teeth with traditional dental implants?

Same-day temporary teeth attachment is a unique feature of All On 4. In traditional implant procedures, immediate loading with temporary teeth is less common. All On 4’s ability to provide provisional teeth on the same day as implant placement enhances the patient’s aesthetics and functionality early in the treatment process.

Do both All On 4 and traditional implants provide a permanent solution?

Yes, both All On 4 and traditional implants offer permanent solutions for tooth replacement. Once the implants have integrated with the jawbone and the final restoration is in place, the result is a durable, long-lasting solution that mimics the natural function and appearance of teeth. Regular dental check-ups and proper oral hygiene are essential for maintaining the longevity of both All On 4 and traditional implant restorations.

What are the aesthetic differences between All On 4 and traditional implant restorations?

Both All On 4 and traditional implant restorations aim to provide natural-looking aesthetics. However, the aesthetic differences may be influenced by factors such as the number of implants, the strategic placement in All On 4, and the customised design of the final restoration. Patients often appreciate the immediate improvement in aesthetics with All On 4, thanks to the provision of same-day temporary teeth.

Is the All On 4 technique more cost-effective than traditional dental implants?

The cost-effectiveness of All On 4 versus traditional dental implants depends on various factors, including the number of implants, treatment complexity, and overall treatment time. While All On 4 may involve a higher initial cost due to its efficiency and immediate loading capabilities, it can be cost-effective in the long run by reducing the number of surgeries and associated expenses. The overall cost comparison should be discussed during the consultation, taking into consideration the individual’s specific needs and preferences.

Can All On 4 be used for both upper and lower arches, like traditional implants?

Yes, All On 4 can be used for both upper and lower arches, similar to traditional implants. The versatility of All On 4 allows for comprehensive restoration in either arch, providing a stable and functional solution for patients with missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. The treatment plan is customised based on the individual’s oral health needs and aesthetic goals.

Are there any specific oral health requirements for All On 4 candidates? All On 4 candidates should have generally good oral health, and specific requirements may include a sufficient amount of bone for implant placement. The consultation and assessment process evaluates factors such as gum health, bone density, and overall oral condition to determine candidacy. Individuals with specific oral health issues may undergo preliminary treatments to ensure the success of the All On 4 procedure.

How does the post-operative care differ between All On 4 and traditional implants?

Post-operative care for All On 4 and traditional implants shares similarities, emphasising good oral hygiene practices, regular dental check-ups, and adherence to post-operative instructions. However, the immediate loading capability of All On 4 requires additional caution during the initial healing phase. Both procedures may involve temporary dietary restrictions and the use of prescribed medications to promote healing and reduce discomfort.

Can All On 4 be a suitable option for patients who were previously told they don’t have enough bone for implants?

Yes, All On 4 is often a suitable option for patients who were previously told they don’t have enough bone for traditional implants. The strategic placement and angulation of implants in All On 4 utilise existing bone more efficiently, reducing the need for extensive bone grafting. This makes All On 4 a viable solution for individuals with varying degrees of bone loss.

What is the recovery time for All On 4 compared to traditional implant procedures?

The recovery time for All On 4 is often shorter compared to traditional implant procedures. The immediate loading capability of All On 4 allows patients to benefit from temporary teeth on the same day as implant placement, contributing to a quicker return to daily activities. Traditional implants may involve longer healing periods between surgical stages, extending the overall recovery time.

Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I don’t usually write reviews, I’m doing it for 2 reasons. Firstly I can not find any words to thank, The hygienist ❤️Julieanne ❤️I have seen her twice this week. 40 minutes for first visit and today was an 1hr. Due to circumstances, and being soooo frightened, and suffering with severe anxiety, I let my teeth get it to a state, which has caused bone loss and gum disease. I have seen many hygienists in my time. Unfortunately due to my fear and anxiety, I was always given a quick 20 minute clean, due to the sensitivity I had, and lack of patience from the hygienist, even with the injecting of the gums, I was into much pain. The only hygienist in 20 years plus, Julianne has been the only one that could do what I needed for years, and gave me a deep clean. She didn’t rush, spent time to numb my gums, she is an extremely gentle person, but got the job done. She would not allow me to have any discomfort. After my first visit on Tuesday, I was excited that there was a cancellation today, can’t believe I said that 😂, even though I was anxious, I trusted her. I have actually done it. The other reason for this review, is for all the other people out there like me. If you have sensitive teeth, the last thing we think we can do is have our teeth cleaned, especially under the gums. Don’t worry, you really can, it all depends how qualified the hygienist is. It’s easy for me to say this now, and yes I will be anxious on my next appointment, but she really didn’t hurt me at all. Book with Julieanne, even though you might of experienced a painful experience before, hate the dentist, suffer with anxiety, and never been able to get a deep clean due to the pain from the water, noice, vibration. I had mine done pain free. I know I’ve got to try to save my teeth, and will be quite happy to go to Julianne So from someone who really knows, don’t need to be scared and see an exceptional lady. Thank you so much Julieanne.Love Julie x

I have a real phobia of dentists but needed a tooth extracted so very reluctantly made an appointment here. All I can say is from the time I stepped inside the reception area until the time all my treatment had finished - the service was excellent. The staff are all so caring and understanding and made me feel at ease. All very friendly too. I have recommended a friend who has already made an appointment. I will be back in 6 months for a check up - which I have never done before. I always wait for a problem before I go to the dentist.
