How Long Does It Take to Get All On 4 Dental ImplantsPre-Procedure Evaluation

The pre-procedure evaluation for All On 4 dental implants involves a comprehensive assessment to determine the patient’s candidacy and plan the treatment accordingly. This evaluation typically includes a thorough examination of the patient’s oral health, including their teeth, gums, and jawbone. X-rays or CT scans may also be taken to assess the bone density and structure to ensure it can support the implants. Additionally, the patient’s medical history and any existing conditions are considered to minimise potential risks during the procedure. Overall, this evaluation ensures that the patient is well-prepared and suitable for All On 4 dental implants.

How Long Does It Take to Get All On 4 Dental ImplantsDay of Surgery

On the day of surgery for All On 4 dental implants, patients undergo a carefully planned and orchestrated procedure designed to restore their smiles and oral function efficiently and effectively.

Typically performed under local anaesthesia, the surgery begins with the removal of any remaining unhealthy teeth in the arch where the implants will be placed. This step ensures a clean slate for the implant placement process. Once the teeth are extracted, the oral surgeon precisely places the dental implants at strategic locations in the jawbone.

The All On 4 technique involves placing four implants per arch, with two implants angled towards the back of the mouth and two towards the front. This configuration maximises the available bone and provides optimal support for the dental prosthetic.

Following implant placement, the next phase of the surgery involves attaching a temporary prosthetic to the implants. This temporary restoration allows patients to leave the dental office with a functional set of teeth on the same day as their surgery, hence the term “teeth in a day” or “same-day teeth.” The temporary prosthetic is custom-designed to fit the patient’s mouth and provide immediate aesthetics and functionality while the implants heal and integrate with the jawbone.

Although the temporary teeth may not have the same durability or longevity as the final prosthetic, they serve an essential purpose during the initial healing phase. After the surgery, patients are provided with detailed post-operative instructions and may be prescribed pain medication or antibiotics to manage any discomfort or prevent infection. Additionally, follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing progress and ensure the success of the All On 4 dental implant procedure.

Benefits of All On 4 Dental Implants at Brooklands Dental ClinicPost-Surgery Recovery Period

During the post-surgery recovery period of All On 4 dental implants, patients can expect to experience some degree of discomfort and swelling in the days following the procedure. This discomfort is typically managed with over-the-counter pain medication prescribed by the dental surgeon. Additionally, patients may be advised to apply ice packs to the affected area to reduce swelling and alleviate any soreness. It’s essential for patients to follow the post-operative instructions provided by their dental team carefully to promote proper healing and minimise the risk of complications.

In the immediate aftermath of the surgery, patients are advised to stick to a soft diet and avoid consuming hard, crunchy, or excessively hot foods that may irritate the surgical sites. This dietary restriction helps to prevent trauma to the healing tissues and ensures optimal healing of the dental implants. As the recovery progresses, patients can gradually reintroduce firmer foods into their diet as tolerated. Maintaining good oral hygiene is also crucial during the recovery period. Patients are instructed to gently brush their teeth and rinse their mouth with an antimicrobial mouthwash as directed by their dental team to keep the surgical sites clean and free from infection.

Follow-Up Appointments

Regular follow-up appointments with the dental surgeon are scheduled during the post-surgery recovery period to monitor the healing process and evaluate the stability of the dental implants. These appointments allow the dental team to assess the integration of the implants with the surrounding bone and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the long-term success of the All On 4 procedure. Patients are encouraged to communicate any concerns or issues they may experience during the recovery period to their dental team promptly. By adhering to the prescribed post-operative care regimen and attending follow-up appointments, patients can promote optimal healing and achieve the desired outcomes with their All On 4 dental implants.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can I return to work after getting All On 4 implants?

After undergoing All On 4 dental implant surgery, the timeframe for returning to work can vary depending on individual factors such as the extent of the procedure, the patient’s overall health, and the nature of their job.

In general, most patients can expect to return to work within a few days to a week following the surgery. However, it’s essential to allow ample time for rest and recovery during the initial post-operative period. Patients may experience some degree of discomfort, swelling, and bruising immediately after the procedure, which can impact their ability to resume normal activities, including work.

It’s advisable to take at least a couple of days off work to rest and allow the body to heal properly. Additionally, patients should follow any specific post-operative instructions provided by their dental surgeon, such as dietary restrictions and activity limitations, to facilitate optimal healing and minimise the risk of complications.

If the nature of the patient’s work involves strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting, they may need to take additional time off or modify their duties until they have fully recovered from the surgery. It’s essential to consult with the dental team for personalised guidance on when it’s safe to return to work based on individual circumstances and the progress of the recovery process.

Will I need to wear temporary teeth during the healing period of All On 4 Dental Implants?

Yes, patients typically wear temporary teeth during the healing period of All On 4 Dental Implants. These temporary prostheses serve several purposes, including maintaining aesthetics, supporting normal speech and eating functions, and protecting the surgical site while the implants integrate with the jawbone. The temporary teeth are custom-made to fit the patient’s mouth and are designed to provide comfort and stability during the initial healing phase.

Once the implants have fully integrated with the jawbone, typically after a few months, the temporary teeth are replaced with permanent, custom-crafted prostheses that are more durable and provide long-term functionality and aesthetics.

What factors can prolong the All On 4 treatment timeline?

Several factors can potentially prolong the All On 4 treatment timeline. These include:

  1. Pre-existing dental issues: Patients with underlying dental problems such as gum disease, insufficient bone density, or untreated decay may require additional preparatory procedures before undergoing All On 4 treatment, which can extend the overall timeline.
  2. Bone quality and quantity: Adequate bone volume and density are essential for the success of dental implants. Patients with inadequate bone may need bone grafting procedures to augment the jawbone, which can prolong the treatment timeline.
  3. Healing and recovery: The body’s healing response varies from person to person. Some individuals may experience slower healing or complications following surgery, leading to delays in the treatment timeline.
  4. Custom prosthesis fabrication: The fabrication of custom-made prostheses, both temporary and permanent, takes time. Factors such as material selection, laboratory processes, and adjustments may contribute to delays in completing the final restoration.
  5. Additional treatments: In some cases, patients may require additional treatments or adjustments during the course of All On 4 treatment, such as gum contouring, prosthetic adjustments, or corrective surgeries, which can extend the overall timeline.

Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I don’t usually write reviews, I’m doing it for 2 reasons. Firstly I can not find any words to thank, The hygienist ❤️Julieanne ❤️I have seen her twice this week. 40 minutes for first visit and today was an 1hr. Due to circumstances, and being soooo frightened, and suffering with severe anxiety, I let my teeth get it to a state, which has caused bone loss and gum disease. I have seen many hygienists in my time. Unfortunately due to my fear and anxiety, I was always given a quick 20 minute clean, due to the sensitivity I had, and lack of patience from the hygienist, even with the injecting of the gums, I was into much pain. The only hygienist in 20 years plus, Julianne has been the only one that could do what I needed for years, and gave me a deep clean. She didn’t rush, spent time to numb my gums, she is an extremely gentle person, but got the job done. She would not allow me to have any discomfort. After my first visit on Tuesday, I was excited that there was a cancellation today, can’t believe I said that 😂, even though I was anxious, I trusted her. I have actually done it. The other reason for this review, is for all the other people out there like me. If you have sensitive teeth, the last thing we think we can do is have our teeth cleaned, especially under the gums. Don’t worry, you really can, it all depends how qualified the hygienist is. It’s easy for me to say this now, and yes I will be anxious on my next appointment, but she really didn’t hurt me at all. Book with Julieanne, even though you might of experienced a painful experience before, hate the dentist, suffer with anxiety, and never been able to get a deep clean due to the pain from the water, noice, vibration. I had mine done pain free. I know I’ve got to try to save my teeth, and will be quite happy to go to Julianne So from someone who really knows, don’t need to be scared and see an exceptional lady. Thank you so much Julieanne.Love Julie x

I have a real phobia of dentists but needed a tooth extracted so very reluctantly made an appointment here. All I can say is from the time I stepped inside the reception area until the time all my treatment had finished - the service was excellent. The staff are all so caring and understanding and made me feel at ease. All very friendly too. I have recommended a friend who has already made an appointment. I will be back in 6 months for a check up - which I have never done before. I always wait for a problem before I go to the dentist.
