Embarking on a journey to care for All On 4 implants is not just about maintaining dental health; it’s about preserving a lifestyle of confidence and comfort. With the right approach, caring for these revolutionary dental prosthetics can be both rewarding and transformative. Let’s explore the intricacies of All On 4 implant care, exploring essential tips and best practices to ensure the longevity and success of your implants while enhancing your overall quality of life.

How to Care for All On 4 Implants - Initial Post-Surgery - Brooklands Dental ClinicInitial Post-Surgery Care

After undergoing All On 4 implant surgery, the initial post-surgery care plays a crucial role in promoting healing and reducing the risk of complications. Immediately following the procedure, it’s essential to prioritise rest and avoid any strenuous activities that could disrupt the healing process.

Patients may experience some swelling, discomfort, and minor bleeding in the first few days, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications and cold compresses applied to the face. It’s vital to follow the post-operative instructions provided by our dental implant team meticulously, including guidelines on oral hygiene practices, dietary restrictions, and follow-up appointments.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is paramount during the initial post-surgery period to prevent infections and ensure the long-term success of All On 4 implants. Patients should gently brush their teeth and rinse their mouth with a prescribed antimicrobial mouthwash as instructed by their dental surgeon.

Avoiding hard, sticky, or crunchy foods is advisable during the initial healing phase to prevent damage to the surgical sites and minimise discomfort. Adequate hydration and a soft diet consisting of nutritious foods like soups, smoothies, and mashed vegetables can aid in the healing process. Regular follow-up visits with your dental surgeon are essential to monitor the healing progress and address any concerns promptly.

Long-Term Care for All On 4 Implants

Ensuring the long-term success and durability of All On 4 implants is paramount for maintaining optimal oral health and overall well-being. Here are some practical tips to preserve the longevity and functionality of your All On 4 implants for years to come:

  1. Regular Dental Check-ups: Schedule routine dental visits with our implant team at least twice a year for comprehensive oral examinations and professional cleanings. These appointments allow us to assess the condition of your implants, monitor gum health, and detect any potential issues early on.
  2. Maintain Excellent Oral Hygiene: Practice meticulous oral hygiene habits, including brushing your teeth at least twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Additionally, floss between your implants and along the gumline to remove plaque and debris that can lead to gum disease and implant failure.
  3. Use Recommended Oral Care Products: Choose oral care products specifically designed for dental implants, such as low-abrasive toothpaste and non-alcoholic mouthwash. These products help maintain the integrity of your implants and protect against potential damage or irritation.
  4. Avoid Hard Foods and Habits: Refrain from chewing on hard objects, such as ice cubes, pens, or fingernails, as this can exert excessive pressure on your implants and compromise their stability. Similarly, avoid consuming hard or sticky foods that may dislodge or damage the prosthetic teeth.
  5. Quit Smoking: If you smoke, consider quitting, as smoking can increase the risk of implant failure by impairing healing and contributing to gum disease. We can provide resources and support to help you quit smoking for the long-term success of your implants.
  6. Protect Against Teeth Grinding: If you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth, consider wearing a custom-made nightguard to protect your implants and natural teeth from excessive wear and damage while you sleep. Talk to our dental implant team and we can help.
  7. Stay Hydrated and Maintain a Balanced Diet: Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth hydrated and promote saliva production, which helps rinse away bacteria and debris. Additionally, maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins to support overall oral and systemic health.
  8. Be Mindful of Medications: Inform us about any medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter supplements and prescription drugs. Some medications may affect oral health or interact with dental treatments, so your dentist can provide tailored recommendations accordingly.

Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I don’t usually write reviews, I’m doing it for 2 reasons. Firstly I can not find any words to thank, The hygienist ❤️Julieanne ❤️I have seen her twice this week. 40 minutes for first visit and today was an 1hr. Due to circumstances, and being soooo frightened, and suffering with severe anxiety, I let my teeth get it to a state, which has caused bone loss and gum disease. I have seen many hygienists in my time. Unfortunately due to my fear and anxiety, I was always given a quick 20 minute clean, due to the sensitivity I had, and lack of patience from the hygienist, even with the injecting of the gums, I was into much pain. The only hygienist in 20 years plus, Julianne has been the only one that could do what I needed for years, and gave me a deep clean. She didn’t rush, spent time to numb my gums, she is an extremely gentle person, but got the job done. She would not allow me to have any discomfort. After my first visit on Tuesday, I was excited that there was a cancellation today, can’t believe I said that 😂, even though I was anxious, I trusted her. I have actually done it. The other reason for this review, is for all the other people out there like me. If you have sensitive teeth, the last thing we think we can do is have our teeth cleaned, especially under the gums. Don’t worry, you really can, it all depends how qualified the hygienist is. It’s easy for me to say this now, and yes I will be anxious on my next appointment, but she really didn’t hurt me at all. Book with Julieanne, even though you might of experienced a painful experience before, hate the dentist, suffer with anxiety, and never been able to get a deep clean due to the pain from the water, noice, vibration. I had mine done pain free. I know I’ve got to try to save my teeth, and will be quite happy to go to Julianne So from someone who really knows, don’t need to be scared and see an exceptional lady. Thank you so much Julieanne.Love Julie x

I have a real phobia of dentists but needed a tooth extracted so very reluctantly made an appointment here. All I can say is from the time I stepped inside the reception area until the time all my treatment had finished - the service was excellent. The staff are all so caring and understanding and made me feel at ease. All very friendly too. I have recommended a friend who has already made an appointment. I will be back in 6 months for a check up - which I have never done before. I always wait for a problem before I go to the dentist.
