Dental Implants Are The Next Best Thing To A Natural Tooth

A Dental implant is an artificial tooth root, surgically placed into your jaw, which holds a replacement tooth or bridge. They integrate into the structure of your bone and prevent loss of the bone after a tooth is removed. They are often more ‘tooth saving’ than traditional treatments since they do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support.

Join our expert at Brooklands Dental Clinic as he unravels the transformative benefits and techniques behind dental implant procedures. Gain valuable insights into this advanced tooth replacement solution, and discover how it can enhance and restore your smile.

Book an Appointment

Aesthetic Advantages

Implants look and feel just like natural teeth.

Functional Advantages

Your Dental Implant will act just like real teeth. You will be able to eat and chew again without pain or irritation. They will also maintain your bone structure and support your facial tissues. They can reduce or eliminate bone atrophy, which causes “shrinkage” or facial cosmetic changes.

Tooth-Saving Advantages

The quality of the adjacent teeth is not sacrificed because they do not have to be cut with the drill to provide support for a conventional bridge. This is of significant long-term benefit to your oral health.

Confidence

Dental implants will allow you to speak and eat with more confidence and comfort.

Reliability

The success rate of dental implants is very high and they are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.

Enjoy Your Favourite Foods

Dental Implants can actually allow for the improved enjoyment of the textures and flavours of your favourite foods. With less plastic covering the roof of your mouth, you can enjoy natural flavours and sensations again.

Optimal Candidates: Nurturing Health and Comfort in Dental Implant Procedures

The ideal candidate for dental implants is in good general and oral health. They must have adequate bone available to support the Implant.

Implant placement requires a small surgical procedure. A general anaesthetic is not required. Treatment is normally far less painful and traumatic than you might think. Modern techniques ensure that the insertion of the implants can be carried out relatively quickly and with minimal discomfort.

How do I know if I’m suitable for dental implants?

A person who can undergo tooth extractions or bridgework can undergo dental implant treatment. The location and the amount of bone available in the implant area is normally the major factor to be considered for any case. Normally implants are suitable and best option for most cases but its best to have a consultation with our dentist to check for suitability and ask any questions you might have for the treatment.

Can I get dental implants on NHS?

Dental implants are typically not available through the NHS, as they are considered a cosmetic procedure. However, in some rare cases where the implants are deemed medically necessary, the NHS may cover the cost. It’s best to consult with our dentist and NHS dental services for specific eligibility criteria and options available in your area.

How long does it take for the dental implant treatment?

Our dentist should be able to give you a rough estimate about time after your first consultation. Nowadays some false teeth are fitted as the same time as implants for some cases. Check with our dentist to see if it’s suitable for you. Normally the false teeth are fitted after 3-4 months after placing the implant. In some instances it might take longer due to complexity of the case but your dentist should be able to let you know about this during your treatment.

Should I get my own dentist to remove the tooth before I discuss implants with you?

It’s a good idea to come and see us as soon as you can. If we need to extract a tooth before the implant, it’s essential to do it delicately to preserve your own bone. If your dentist is experienced in this, that’s fantastic! But if not, don’t worry; we can handle the tooth removal at our surgery along with the implant placement. Just let us know what works best for you!

What are implants made from?

Implants are made from titanium. Bone has a natural affinity for titanium which enables it to grow around the implant effectively becoming part of your bone.

How long is the recovery period after dental implants?

After undergoing dental implant surgery, the initial recovery period usually spans a few days, during which you may encounter temporary swelling and discomfort. The complete healing and osseointegration process can extend over several months, allowing the implant to firmly integrate with the jawbone.

Can smokers get dental implants?

Although smoking can increase the risk of complications and hinder the healing process, smokers can still get dental implants. However, it is strongly advised to quit smoking or at least reduce smoking to increase the chances of successful implant integration.

Is there an age limit for dental implant treatment?

There is no strict age limit for dental implant treatment. As long as you have good oral health and are suitable for the procedure, dental implants can be considered at any age.

Not every dental implant case requires a bone graft. It depends on the jawbone’s condition and the specific implantation site. A comprehensive assessment by a dental professional will determine the necessity.

Bridge or dental implant: Which one should I choose?

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, two popular options are dental bridges and dental implants. Both solutions offer their own set of benefits and considerations. The choice between a bridge and a dental implant depends on various factors, including your oral health, budget, and personal preferences. Consulting with a qualified dentist like us is crucial to determine the most suitable option tailored to your individual needs.

Can dental implants replace multiple missing teeth?

Yes, dental implants can replace multiple missing teeth. Implant-supported bridges or dentures are effective solutions for restoring function and aesthetics in cases of several missing teeth.

Can dental implants fail, and what are the common reasons?

While rare, dental implant failure can occur. Common reasons include infection, poor osseointegration, peri-implantitis (gum disease around the implant), or complications during surgery.

Diabetic individuals can be candidates for dental implants, but strict blood sugar control is essential. Diabetes management and overall health play a role in the success of the implant procedure.

Teeth grinding (bruxism) can impact dental implants. Our dentist may recommend a nightguard to protect the implants and address the underlying issue of teeth grinding before proceeding with implant surgery.

Can dental implants be placed if I have had jaw surgery before?

Dental implants can be placed after jaw surgery, depending on the specific procedure and its impact on the bone structure. A thorough evaluation by our dentist is necessary.

Do dental implants affect surrounding teeth?

Dental implants are independent structures that do not negatively impact surrounding teeth. Unlike traditional bridges, adjacent teeth remain untouched, preserving their natural structure.

Can dental implants replace molars effectively?

Dental implants are highly effective for replacing molars. Their stability and functionality make them an ideal solution for restoring the chewing capacity of these essential back teeth.

Do dental implants interfere with sinus cavities?

Dental implants in the upper jaw may come close to sinus cavities. Sinus lift procedures can create space for implants, minimising the risk of interference and ensuring proper placement.

How to find a good dentist near me for dental implants?

To find a good dentist near you for dental implants, start by seeking recommendations from friends, family, or your regular dentist. Additionally, online reviews and testimonials can provide valuable insights into the experiences of other patients. Look for dentists with expertise in implantology and those who are accredited by relevant dental organizations. Schedule consultations with potential dentists to discuss your specific needs, treatment plans, and associated costs. During these meetings, assess the dentist’s communication style, transparency, and willingness to address your concerns. Ultimately, a good dentist for dental implants should have a proven track record, make you feel comfortable, and be committed to providing personalised and high-quality care.

Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I have been going to Brooklands dental clinic for a number of years. Before going here I hadn't been to a dentist in over 20 years as I was petrified of dentists. However circumstances forced me to go. They were brilliant with me, kind, gentle and understanding. All the staff were fantastic. I have now been going for a long time and had lots of different treatments and I am finally over my fear. I highly recommend this practice for its kindness, efficiency and skill.
