Transform Your Smile Swiftly: Discover the ‘Teeth in a Day’ Magic with All-On-4 Dental Implants

A fixed bridge is attached to dental implants – all in one visit. On the day of surgery, any remaining teeth are extracted, and 4-6 implants are placed. Usually, six implants are placed in the upper arch, with four in the lower arch.

This procedure has earned the nickname ‘teeth in a day’, ‘smile in a day’ or ‘same day teeth’. This is a drastic improvement on traditional implant procedures which can take six months or more to complete with extensive recovery time at each step of the progress.

All-On-4 Dental Implants Overview: From Consultation to Implant Placement and Post-Surgery Care

Your first step in the procedure will be a consultation with Dr de Jager. During this consultation he will examine your mouth and take x-rays and a CT scan may also be required, which will enable Dr de Jager your suitability for this treatment.

He will also discuss alternative treatment options with you before you commit to anything.

If you need to have teeth extracted before your implants are inserted, this can usually be done on the same day as the implant placements.

On the day of surgery we can arrange for you to have sedation to help you relax during the procedure.  Implants will placed and an implant retained bridge can usually be fitted on the same day and you will leave the practice with your ‘new smile’

Full aftercare advice will be given by our team but usually a more permanent bridge will then be fitted to the implants in approximately 6-9 months following the surgery and proper bone integration has taken place.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do All-on-4 implants differ from traditional dental implants?

Unlike traditional dental implants, which may require multiple implants per tooth or extensive bone grafting, All-on-4 implants utilize just four implants per arch, strategically placed to maximize support and stability. This streamlined approach often eliminates the need for bone grafts, making it a more efficient and accessible option for many patients.

Am I a suitable candidate for All-on-4 implants?

Most individuals with significant tooth loss or those wearing traditional dentures may be suitable candidates for All-on-4 implants. A thorough dental examination and imaging are necessary to assess factors such as oral health, bone density, and overall suitability for the procedure.

Can I get All-On-4 dental implants on NHS?

All-On-4 dental implants are typically not available on the NHS for cosmetic reasons. The NHS primarily focuses on providing essential and medically necessary dental treatments. All-On-4 implants are considered a cosmetic solution for tooth loss, addressing aesthetic concerns rather than urgent oral health needs. As a result, individuals seeking All-On-4 implants for cosmetic purposes may need to explore private dental services for this specific treatment. Private dental clinics, like Brooklands Dental Clinic in Milton Keynes, can offer a range of cosmetic options, including All-On-4 implants, providing personalised assessments and comprehensive dental care tailored to individual preferences. Private dental services often involve associated costs, but they allow patients to access cosmetic treatments beyond what is covered by the NHS, ensuring a more extensive range of options for achieving a natural and aesthetically pleasing smile.

How long does it take to get All-on-4 dental implants?

The entire process, from the initial consultation to the final placement of the permanent prosthesis, can take several months. However, patients receive a temporary set of teeth on the same day as the implant placement, allowing for immediate functionality.

Is the All-on-4 procedure painful?

The All-on-4 procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia, ensuring that patients are comfortable and pain-free during the process. Some postoperative discomfort is normal, but this can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications.

Are All-on-4 implants permanent?

All-on-4 implants are designed to be a permanent solution for tooth loss. With proper care and regular dental check-ups, they can last for many years, providing a durable and stable foundation for a functional and aesthetic smile.

Can I eat normally with All-on-4 implants?

Yes, one of the significant advantages of All-on-4 implants is that they restore full chewing function, allowing patients to eat a wide range of foods with confidence. It’s essential to follow any dietary guidelines provided by the dentist during the initial healing period.

How do I care for my All-on-4 implants?

Caring for All-on-4 implants is similar to caring for natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups are essential to maintain oral hygiene and the longevity of the implants. Dentists may also recommend specific cleaning techniques for the prosthesis.

What materials are used in All-on-4 implants?

All-on-4 implants typically use medical-grade titanium for the implant posts, as titanium is biocompatible and integrates well with the jawbone. The prosthetic teeth are often made from durable and aesthetically pleasing materials like acrylic or porcelain.

Can smokers get All-on-4 dental implants?

While smoking may increase the risk of implant failure and complications, individuals who smoke can still undergo All-on-4 procedures. However, quitting smoking before and after the procedure is strongly recommended to enhance the success and longevity of the implants.

Are there any health conditions that may affect eligibility for All-on-4 implants?

Certain health conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes or significant immune system disorders, may impact eligibility for All-on-4 implants. A thorough medical evaluation is crucial to assess the patient’s overall health and determine suitability for the procedure.

Do All-on-4 implants require periodic adjustments?

While All-on-4 implants are designed to be durable, periodic adjustments or maintenance visits may be necessary over time. Regular dental check-ups help monitor the health of the implants and address any issues promptly.

What is the recovery time after getting All-on-4 implants?

The initial recovery period after getting All-on-4 implants involves some swelling and discomfort, which typically subside within a few days to a week. Full integration of the implants with the jawbone may take several months.

Can I get All-on-4 implants if I have gum disease?

Gum disease can impact the success of implant procedures, and active gum disease may need to be treated before proceeding with All-on-4 implants. A comprehensive evaluation by our dentist will determine the most appropriate course of action.

Are All-on-4 implants suitable for individuals with bone loss?

All-on-4 implants are specifically designed to address bone loss, and they often eliminate the need for extensive bone grafting. The strategic placement of the implants maximises the use of available bone, making them a viable option for individuals with some degree of bone loss.

How often should I visit the dentist after getting All-on-4 implants?

After getting All-on-4 implants, regular dental check-ups are essential. In the initial months, more frequent visits may be required to monitor healing and ensure the implants’ stability. Once the integration is complete, regular dental check-ups typically suffice.

Are All-on-4 implants customized to match natural teeth?

Yes, All-on-4 implants can be customised to match the colour, shape, and size of natural teeth. The prosthetic teeth are crafted to blend seamlessly with the patient’s existing dentition, providing a natural and aesthetically pleasing result.

Are there alternatives to All-on-4 dental implants?

Yes, there are alternative dental implant solutions, such as traditional dental implants, implant-supported bridges, or implant-retained dentures. The choice depends on factors like the extent of tooth loss, bone density, etc. A comprehensive consultation helps determine the most suitable option.

I have a real phobia of dentists but needed a tooth extracted so very reluctantly made an appointment here. All I can say is from the time I stepped inside the reception area until the time all my treatment had finished - the service was excellent. The staff are all so caring and understanding and made me feel at ease. All very friendly too. I have recommended a friend who has already made an appointment. I will be back in 6 months for a check up - which I have never done before. I always wait for a problem before I go to the dentist.
