Teeth Whitening in Milton Keynes

Everyone desires a beautiful, bright smile. When you meet someone with a gorgeous smile, it captures your attention. A smile reveals so much about a person. If you are unhappy with the colour and appearance of your teeth, you may hide them or not smile as often. Tooth Whitening is a fast, effective and safe way to transform the appearance of your smile – turning back the clock on ageing and discolouration.

What Does Teeth Whitening Involve?

We will take impressions of your teeth and send them to the laboratory to make some customised trays. At your next appointment, usually in 2 or 3 days, we will fit your bespoke whitening trays and give you a whitening product to take home and use at you convenience.

A pre and post-op shade is taken so we can gauge the effectiveness of the treatment and achieve a result that will make you smile.

We will arrange a review appointment usually 2 – 3 weeks later to assess your results and decide if you require further treatment.

Why Have My Teeth Become Discoloured In The First Place?

There are many different causes for tooth discolouration. These include ageing, coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, and certain types of medication, such as tetracycline. All of these can contribute to your teeth not looking as white and bright as they should.

At Brooklands Dental Clinic, we can help reverse ageing and discolouration into a striking smile. Tooth Whitening has improved the lives of many of our patients – enhancing their confidence (personally and professionally), facial appearance and self-image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is take-home teeth whitening effective for all types of stains?

Take-home teeth whitening is generally effective for extrinsic stains caused by surface-level discoloration from food, drinks, or smoking. However, it may be less effective for intrinsic stains caused by factors like trauma or medication. Consulting with our dentist helps determine the suitability of at-home whitening for specific types of stains.

How long does it take to see results with at-home teeth whitening?

Results vary, but many individuals notice a change within a week or two. Consistent use according to our dentist’s recommendations ensures optimal results over the prescribed treatment period.

Can I get take-home teeth whitening on NHS?

In general, cosmetic dental procedures, including teeth whitening, are not typically available through the NHS  in the United Kingdom. The NHS primarily focuses on providing essential and medically necessary dental treatments. Teeth whitening is considered a cosmetic procedure, addressing aesthetic concerns rather than urgent oral health needs. Therefore, individuals interested in teeth whitening usually need to seek private dental services.

What is the difference between professional take-home whitening and over-the-counter products?

Professional take-home whitening involves custom trays and higher-concentration whitening gel, ensuring more controlled and effective results than over-the-counter products with generic trays and lower-concentration gels.

Are there any side effects or sensitivity associated with at-home teeth whitening?

Some individuals may experience temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation during at-home teeth whitening. Using a desensitising toothpaste and following our dentist’s guidelines can help alleviate these effects.

Is it safe to use take-home whitening while pregnant or breastfeeding?

It’s generally recommended to avoid teeth whitening during pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precaution.

What ingredients are typically used in professional-grade at-home whitening gels?

Professional-grade whitening gels often contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide as the active whitening agents. These ingredients safely penetrate enamel to break down stains without causing harm.

Can take-home teeth whitening be used if I have sensitive teeth?

Individuals with sensitive teeth may experience temporary discomfort. Using a lower-concentration gel or a desensitising toothpaste and consulting with our dentist can help manage sensitivity.

Can teenagers use take-home teeth whitening products?

It is generally not recommended for teenagers to use teeth whitening products without professional guidance. Dental consultation ensures the safety and appropriateness of whitening treatments for younger individuals.

Is there a consultation required before starting at-home teeth whitening?

A consultation with our dentist is essential before starting any whitening treatment. The dentist assesses oral health, discusses expectations, and provides personalised recommendations for the most effective and safe whitening approach.

What is the cost range for professional-grade at-home teeth whitening kits?

The cost of professional-grade at-home teeth whitening kits varies, but it generally ranges from £200 to £600, depending on the dental clinic and the specific products used.

Can at-home teeth whitening help with intrinsic stains?

At-home teeth whitening may have limited effectiveness on intrinsic stains. For such cases, alternative treatments like veneers or bonding may be recommended for a more comprehensive solution.

Are there any restrictions on food or drink during at-home whitening treatment?

During at-home whitening treatment, it’s advisable to avoid or limit consumption of foods and drinks that can stain teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and dark-coloured berries.

What should I do if I experience sensitivity during at-home teeth whitening?

If sensitivity occurs, temporarily discontinuing use, using a desensitising toothpaste, or adjusting the whitening frequency may help. Also, consult with our dentist to ensure proper management.

Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I have been going to Brooklands dental clinic for a number of years. Before going here I hadn't been to a dentist in over 20 years as I was petrified of dentists. However circumstances forced me to go. They were brilliant with me, kind, gentle and understanding. All the staff were fantastic. I have now been going for a long time and had lots of different treatments and I am finally over my fear. I highly recommend this practice for its kindness, efficiency and skill.
