Potential Risks and Side Effects

1. Tooth Sensitivity

  • Overview: Some individuals may experience increased tooth sensitivity, particularly in the days following the placement of veneers.
  • Cause: The removal of a small amount of enamel during the preparation process may contribute to temporary sensitivity.
  • Management: Sensitivity often resolves on its own, but individuals can use desensitising toothpaste and avoid hot or cold foods.

2. Irreversible Procedure

  • Overview: The process of preparing teeth for veneers involves removing a thin layer of enamel, making the procedure irreversible.
  • Consideration: Individuals should carefully weigh the permanence of the procedure and be certain about their decision.

3. Possibility of Chips or Breaks

  • Overview: While veneers are durable, they can chip or break under certain circumstances.
  • Caution: Individuals should avoid biting hard objects or using teeth as tools to prevent damage to veneers.

4. Gum Irritation

  • Overview: In some cases, the placement of veneers may cause gum irritation or inflammation.
  • Prevention: Properly fitting veneers and maintaining good oral hygiene can minimise the risk of gum irritation.

5. Colour Mismatch

  • Overview: Achieving the desired tooth colour with veneers is essential, but there may be a risk of colour mismatch.
  • Solution: Thorough communication with the dentist about desired tooth shade helps minimise the risk of dissatisfaction.

6. Veneer Detachment

  • Overview: While rare, veneers can detach from the tooth surface.
  • Prevention: Proper bonding techniques, regular check-ups, and avoiding excessive force can reduce the risk of veneer detachment.

7. Impact on Natural Tooth Structure

  • Overview: The removal of enamel during the veneer preparation process may impact natural tooth structure.
  • Consideration: While minimal enamel removal is a standard practice, individuals should be informed about the changes to their natural teeth.

8. Allergic Reactions

  • Overview: In rare cases, individuals may experience allergic reactions to the materials used in veneers.
  • Precaution: Dentists conduct thorough assessments and inquire about allergies to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.

9. Longevity and Replacement

  • Overview: Veneers are durable, but they may require replacement over time due to wear or changes in appearance.
  • Maintenance: Regular dental check-ups help monitor the condition of veneers and determine if replacement is necessary.

10. Maintenance Challenges

  • Overview: While veneers do not decay, maintaining good oral hygiene practices is crucial for the health of surrounding teeth and gums.
  • Routine Care: Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings contribute to the longevity of veneers.

Had my first hygienist appointment with Sarah yesterday. She deserves the rating, my teeth look and feel clean and smooth. Sarah was gentle and thorough, hugely important to those of us with a fear of the invasiveness of dentistry. Next appointment booked!

I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years due to a very bad experience. My mother In law recommended Brooklands dental and I’m so pleased I listened to her. My teeth are in an awful state, I had a lot of tears leading up to my appointment and I cried in there too but Kirsty the receptionist was very reassuring, so kind and checked I was ok whilst I waited. Ana was amazing, she could see I was nervous but kept me calm, explained throughout what she was doing, put a dental plan in place with no pressure to commit to it. She didn’t judge the state of my teeth and was just so lovely and reassuring. I feel very confident that she is going to help me get my teeth and gums back on track so thank you so so much for your help and understanding

I don’t usually write reviews, I’m doing it for 2 reasons. Firstly I can not find any words to thank, The hygienist ❤️Julieanne ❤️I have seen her twice this week. 40 minutes for first visit and today was an 1hr. Due to circumstances, and being soooo frightened, and suffering with severe anxiety, I let my teeth get it to a state, which has caused bone loss and gum disease. I have seen many hygienists in my time. Unfortunately due to my fear and anxiety, I was always given a quick 20 minute clean, due to the sensitivity I had, and lack of patience from the hygienist, even with the injecting of the gums, I was into much pain. The only hygienist in 20 years plus, Julianne has been the only one that could do what I needed for years, and gave me a deep clean. She didn’t rush, spent time to numb my gums, she is an extremely gentle person, but got the job done. She would not allow me to have any discomfort. After my first visit on Tuesday, I was excited that there was a cancellation today, can’t believe I said that 😂, even though I was anxious, I trusted her. I have actually done it. The other reason for this review, is for all the other people out there like me. If you have sensitive teeth, the last thing we think we can do is have our teeth cleaned, especially under the gums. Don’t worry, you really can, it all depends how qualified the hygienist is. It’s easy for me to say this now, and yes I will be anxious on my next appointment, but she really didn’t hurt me at all. Book with Julieanne, even though you might of experienced a painful experience before, hate the dentist, suffer with anxiety, and never been able to get a deep clean due to the pain from the water, noice, vibration. I had mine done pain free. I know I’ve got to try to save my teeth, and will be quite happy to go to Julianne So from someone who really knows, don’t need to be scared and see an exceptional lady. Thank you so much Julieanne.Love Julie x

I have a real phobia of dentists but needed a tooth extracted so very reluctantly made an appointment here. All I can say is from the time I stepped inside the reception area until the time all my treatment had finished - the service was excellent. The staff are all so caring and understanding and made me feel at ease. All very friendly too. I have recommended a friend who has already made an appointment. I will be back in 6 months for a check up - which I have never done before. I always wait for a problem before I go to the dentist.
